Finding warmth

The weather is finally cooperating! We got to have a beer at an outside beer garden and walk around the city center of Savannah with the pups. Savannah is a beautifully historic town with many squares and open spaces right on the water. We had dinner at Paula Dean’s restaurant The Lady & Sons and enjoyed walking around the city. Since we weren’t really tired we decided to move on down the road a bit and see if we could put a few more miles under our belts. We stopped at a nice rest area somewhere in Georgia for the night.

Our next stop was Jacksonville, FL. Libby’s cousins Ty and Thom Lowry both live there. We were able to hang out with Thom and have lunch, where we had the most fabulous dish: roti with a curry dipping sauce. Imagine the best flaky flattop-fried garlic bread that you could dip in a little spicy red curry. Omg yum! That was served at a place called Hawkers. If you head to FL, I highly recommend it.

While at lunch, Thom recommended heading to the beaches or going on a bike ride. All of that sounded amazing. We started toward the beaches on A1A only to see the clouds roll in. So we headed south, hoping the rain would let up at some point. We eventually found ourselves in St. Augustine. What a cute little city. Libby had been there as a child but didn’t remember it much. There is so much history there and it’s right on the water. We got out and walked around the city until the rain caught up with us so we headed back towards Jacksonville to have beers with Ty. Of course we forgot to take photos!

We drove a bit down the road to find a sleeping spot and it was still raining. We are hoping for warmth and sunshine tomorrow – so greedy!

80 and sunny upon waking up! Awesome! We got in the car once again to knock one more cafe off the list. This time it was Credo Coffee in Orlando. We were going to be driving right through and so we stopped in for a quick coffee. The neighborhood is adorable and perfect for this hipster spot. There were a good handful of people inside enjoying spacious tables and working on their computers. This photo is from their website because AGAIN we forgot photos! We ordered a dark roast and a decaf Provence tea and were told that we could pay between $2-4 each. They took payment through Square and we waited outside on the tight patio with the dogs. A unique twist on the model but cool to see it in action.

Once Brad was fully caffeinated, we drove on down the road toward Port Charlotte. We made a quick stop (as quick as a stop at a grocery store can be the day before Thanksgiving) at Trader Joe’s in Sarasota to grab some veggies and supplies and headed down to our resting spot for a bit.
